Why does every Christmas find us dressing up in ugly sweaters, jumpers and tees we wouldn’t normally be seen dead in? How many people have you heard say “never again” only to see them the following year sporting antlers on their heads and Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer on their chests? Here is my Christmas sweater round-up for Christmas 2021.

Icelandic / Nordic / Scandinavian Christmas Sweater Designs
These are extremely popular and rightly so. They are by far some of the more tasteful designs out there. However, they often seem to be included in the designation “ugly sweater”.
Funny Christmas Sweaters
Funny Christmas jumpers pop up everywhere. Some are hilarious, others just plain offensive. What will you see at your work party this year I wonder?
People just love Rudolf. He’s one of those characters that have dug deep into the common psyche. Rudolph was “born” in 1939, when Montgomery Ward (Chicago) decided to create their own colouring book to give away. Robert L. May was trying to come up with an idea when a flash of inspiration hit him while looking out at the fog – a luminous red nose.
A red nose was normally associated with drunkards so initially the idea fell flat, until May asked Denver Gillen, an illustrator, to create cute reindeer pictures. The lovable character won the day. In its first year, the story was reproduced on 2.4 million copies!
I think the film industry has to hold up its hands to this one. Definitely movie-inspired.
Disney and Christmas go hand in hand.
Christian Christmas Sweaters
Sometimes you want to say a little more with your Christmas sweater. Apart from Nativity Scenes, one of the most popular religious seasonal designs is the “Jesus is the reason for the season” sweater or T shirt.
